thanks + a question
Question from Tyree: I emailed and had a question on youtube about the reds dropping out on my monitor, and your advice led me to narrow down and solve the problem 🙂 I wanted to thank you again for the help. I still have a few minor problems, I’m hoping I’ll be able to solve (or at least identify) these as well.
The 2 outstanding issues I have are
– a light ‘snow’ on the monitor. It looks like very short white horizontal lines that cross the monitor horizontally and up. It’s kind of slow, and it doesn’t make it hard to see the picture or anything, but it is very noticeable.
– if the monitor has been off for a while and I turn it on, it starts out extremely dark. After a while the brightness will kick in and it will look normal. But even after that every once in a while you see the screen brightness flutuate for a split second..sometimes it’s barely noticeable, sometimes you can really tell it got dark for a split second and faded back in again.
If I can solve these, my monitor will be perfect again! Thanks!

Response from Jonathan: Tyree,
First off, we’re glad you were able to solve the problem you had with the red color dropping out. We always like to hear that someone fixed a issue with their game. Congrats!
The light snow that you are describing on your monitor could be caused by grounding issues. We recommend checking to make sure that the monitor chassis is grounded on the metal frame and that you have a ground prong on your plug running into your cabinet. Sometimes bad caps might also cause this issue so you might look into a cap kit once you have verified that your chassis is properly grounded.
The brightness issues you are having sound like they are being caused by either a bad capacitor or perhaps an old flyback. It really sounds like this is just an older monitor that’s getting to the point of going out. It might be good to order a chassis rebuild kit from Bob Roberts and just go ahead and replace all the caps and the flyback. If you end up rebuilding this chassis, let us know how it turns out and if it solves the issue.
