Re: Sound problem

Question from Jesse: Hi again. I swapped the audio amps, but it still had the same problem. I bought brand new speakers from mikesarcade, because rats had chewed the speakers. But still with the new speakers, it still has the same problem, weak and distorted sound in the left speaker and no sound at all in the right, and no music. Im ready to pull my board out and inspect it. My question is. As i was pulling out the board i spotted what appeared to be UV EPROM’s. My electronics college teacher told me not to expose them to any light what so ever or it could erase some or all of the data depending on how long it is in the light. What do yall usually do about these uv eproms? Or is this really an issue?

Response from Jonathan: Jesse,

The UV EPROMs should be fine as long as you’re not exposing them to direct sunlight. According to most of the studies I’ve seen, it would take 3 years to erase a UV EPROM that was constantly exposed to room level fluorescent lighting. With that said, most people say it would only take a week for the same UV EPROM to be erased by direct sunlight. I would say that’s a nonissue but it’s a good thought to keep in mind whenever you’re working with UV EPROMs.

Sounds like you’re doing the right thing by looking at your board. If the audio amps did the same thing after the swap, you are more than likely having a board issue.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
