Checking / Replacing HOT
Question from Matthew: HI, guys. I have a question for you.
I’ve watched several of your videos, and I must admit: They are fantastic! I have learned so much, I am already looking forward to adding more games to my collection, just so I can work on them. And, of course, play them. 😀
There is one thing that I haven’t figured out, though. Where, exactly, is the HOT on a chassis board? I see it referenced everywhere, on your site and on others, but nowhere have I found where exactly to look on a board for the HOT.
I have a Road Riot 4WD two-player which is playing blind on the red side. The fuse is blowing, and I am in the process of trying to determine why. I would like to check the HOT, but I don’t know which component that is on the board.
The board in question is a Wells-Gardner 25K7191. Can you help me figure out what I need to look at to determine if my HOT is bad?

The location and appearance of the Horizontal Output Transistor (or HOT) depends on the type of chassis you are working on. In our post on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind, we talk a little bit about the location of the HOT on a Wells Gardner K7000 chassis. The HOT on this chassis is typically mounted to a metal plate.
