Raiden II board trouble
Question from Chris: Morning Gents!
I just discovered your podcast last night, and seeing as how I have been having trouble with a JAMMA board I picked up at a garaged sale I thought maybe you could help!
The people I purchased it from were not the owners, they were selling it for a friend and they told me it had worked before taking a ride in the back of a pickup, but once it arrived to be sold it no longer turned on.
When I got the cabinet home I plugged it in and nothing, not wanting to screw around with the power supply I pulled the board out (which was loosely nailed to the inside of the cabinet) and hooked it up to my supergun. When I power on the video hangs at what I suspect is the opening animation, but then continues to play. You can hear the sounds of the demo in the background, and you can coin up and play, but still stuck on the opening screen.

Unfortunately we are not really experts when it comes to JAMMA board repair. With that said, it seems like there is something wrong with the video processing and/or RAM sections of your board. You might try contacting some of the people we have listed on our Resources page under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales section to see if they can help you out. We also have a post on Inspecting An Arcade Board that might be helpful as well.
Here’s a quick tip. You might try gently flexing the board while the game is on to see if it makes a difference. If it does, you probably have a cold solder joint on one of the chips. At this point, check the legs on all the chips and touch up the solder on the legs that seem loose.
