Hey Question Here about transistors and brightnes
Question from Meng: Hey guys this is Meng from Wisconsin. Long time listener first time writer. I would like to take the time and say your videos and podcast are great and have gave me the confidence to pick up an arcade. Well i picked up this 1988 25 inch bad dudes data east cab with an cps2 children of the atom board in it for 100 bucks, and ive been having trouble with the colors and brightness of the monitor. I have went ahead and did a cap kit which helped out the blurriness and a bit color distribution on the monitor but it is still off color. I think i need new transistors but i dont know where to get it. I have been looking everywhere and just cant seem to find it. The chassis is a wells gardner k7000 and the neck board transistors is “t c2068 8e”. Now i dont know if i can use a different one please tell me if i can because this has been off 2 months because i think one of the transistors leg is broken because i well fiddle with it to read the type of transistors it is. As for the brightness i think that a new tube is needed, not sure if i can do anything to help. Now i have adjust it but it just wont get a nice brightness. Please get back to me i appreciated it ahead of time thanks guys.

The best way to find a replacement transistor is to type the number of your current transistor into a cross reference search on an electronic parts manufacturer’s web site. We recommend using NTE Electronics (http://www.nteinc.com). The only number you need to type in the cross reference search is the c2068. That should give you the corresponding NTE part and tell you whether they have that part in stock.
Your brightness problem could possibly be related to your tube. If you think this is the case, you might try getting the tube rejuvenated. Check out our video on Using A Tube Rejuvenator for more information on that process. If you don’t have a tube rejuvenator, you might try taking your monitor tube to an old television or electronics repair shop. These guys usually have a tube rejuvenator lying round that could solve your brightness issue. Of course, make sure that you’ve tried adjusting the brightness on both the monitor chassis and the flyback before suspecting the monitor tube.
