Help!
Question from Frank: Hey Jonathan. I received the Jamma kit today and went OH Shit!.It’s gonna be alot more work than I thought with hardware mods but anyway, what I’m wondering is if I need to do anything with the coin wires, and the service and test wires? I also noticed that the schematic only shows connections for 1 player=start, and 2 player=start,! 1 player=fire, 2 player=fire, but no one player or 2 player selecton. Is this done once you boot and you are selecting what game to play (In the software), or is this actually the buttons that tell the game wether it’s gonna be a 1 or 2 player round? If so, do I need to wire a button on each side beside the FIRE buttons to tell the game that either player 1 or player 2 are ready to begin the play, they may be in the bathroom or getting a beer.I hope you follow what I’m gettig at because I’m confusing myself!
Thanks again.

Response from Jonathan: Frank,
Let’s not panic too much. As always, we’ll take the questions one at a time…

Well, if you’re just going to run the game on free play then the coin wires are not necessary; however, the service and test wires are very necessary as they allow you to configure the board (i.e. set the board on free play, game volume, etc.). We like to mount something like this inside the cabinet to connect these wires to: TEST SWITCH FOR ARCADE WITH 3 BUTTONS AND BRACKET. This bracket makes it a whole lot easier than mounting your own buttons inside the cabinet.

OK, this is not as bad as you think. When the game is on free play, you can press either the 1 or 2 player start to enable the game menu. Once you have moved the selector to the game that you want to play, you will press either the 1 or 2 player start again to tell the game what mode you want to play the game in. So, you only need to wire up a 1 and 2 player start button. The rest will take care of itself.
Just as side note, if you’re using a standard, upright arcade cabinet you don’t need to wire up the 2 player joystick or buttons at all as the players basically take turns playing the 1 player side. The only time you would need to wire up the 2 player joystick and buttons would be if you’re building a cocktail cabinet where the screen flips to both players during gameplay. Otherwise, just leave the wires for the 2 player joystick and buttons out of your wiring scheme.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
