Silent scope 2
Question from Mike: Hi. I recently purchase Silent Scope 2 arcade game. The game and everything works on it, except it has a vertical line going from the bottom of the screen to the top. That’s it, nothing else. So this would be a “horizontal” problem. Most of what I find online talks about the vertical collapse problem in monitors, not horizontal collapse. Could cold solder joints cause the same problem? Also, this monitor is actually pretty intimidating and I don’t see a way to discharge it. It is definitely not the same in the back as my other games, and it doesn’t look like I could stick a screw driver under the suction cup to discharge. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

Response from Jonathan: Mike,
Although it’s rare, it is possible that you have a horizontal collapse issue. Yes, cold solder joints could cause this issue especially around the horizontal IC section of your monitor. In fact, you might try replacing both the horizontal and vertical ICs on your monitor as these parts are often the cause of this issue. Some other causes can be a bad horizontal width coil or bad polypropylene (i.e. Chiclet as Tim calls them) capacitors if your monitor has them. Check out our post on Adjusting The Horizontal Width Coil for more information on that particular part.
We’re not sure exactly how to discharge your monitor based on the information in your email. Please feel free to send us a picture of the back of your monitor if you continue to have problems identifying how to discharge your monitor. Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
