Arcadevga 5000 PCie
Question from Rich: Hi, hopefully you can help answer these questions in regards to the ArcadeVGA 3000 or 5000 video card that is commonly used in MAME arcades these days. As per Ultimarc’s site there isn’t in depth details for what I was looking for. These cards are supposed to be mainly used for CRT monitors (15khz) to get same feel as you would in a real arcade and off course signaling the 15khz to the original CRT monitor. If for some reason the CRT monitor should break could we still use this card for regular LCD monitor as I do see a DVI output however not sure of the performance. Also if I decide to go beyond MAME (ex: game cube ,ps2 etc.) would this card be able to handle graphics for other game platforms? I know you would need a stronger PC to handle other platforms just wanted to make sure the card would handle the graphics. Thanks, Rich

Response from Jonathan: Rich,
Yes, ArcadeVGA cards are mainly to be used to power arcade CRT monitors as they put out the 15 kHz frequency. The newer versions of the ArcadeVGA support all frequencies from 15 kHz to 31 kHz so it should work fine with most LCD monitors. Of course, you could just use a regular off-the-shelf video card if you wanted to hook your computer up to an LCD as well.
Yes, this card can output pretty much any resolution from any application (or emulators) as a 15 kHz compatible frequency to the arcade monitor. I think the ArcadeVGA card should be able to handle Gamecube and PS2 emulators provided that you have a fast processor. Of course, you could try contacting Ultimarc just to make sure.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your future repairs.
