Centipede Issue
Question from Michael: Hey there, if this email is at all an intrusion I apologize, please feel free to delete it, I won’t be upset. I’m sure you get many emails from people like myself. I recently ran across a web page describing an issue that I’m having with my Centipede: http://arcadevidiocy.com/wordpress/2013/05/16/centipede-monitor-sync/. I’ve posted on KLOV with the no responses so far. Mine is synced and stable it’s the left side that’s all wonky like on the web page pic. It’s mentioned that Jonathan Leung may have had a alternate fix for it. Both my Horizontal Hold and Horizontal OSC adjustments are maxed out and I can’t get the curl to go away. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong or what. If there’s another trick to fixing this or dealing with the root cause that would be awesome. Cheers and thank you so much. Michael

Response from Jonathan: Michael,
Getting rid of the curl really depends on what monitor chassis (brand and model) is currently in your arcade cabinet.
The Electrohome G07 (which is common in Centipede arcade cabinets) is notorious for monitor curl issues. If you do have a Electrohome G07 monitor, our friend Bob Roberts has an article on his website that discusses the steps to fix the curl issue. Here’s a link: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/g07notes.html.
On Wells Gardner K4600 series monitors, sometimes the value of the horizontal hold pot (VR351) is not high enough to adjust the curl out. To change this, you can solder a 27k Ohm 1/4 Watt carbon resistor to the leg of VR351 that it not tied to ground. This should increase the value of VR351 enough so you can adjust the curl out of your picture. It’s a good idea to use some heat shrink tubing around the resistor just to prevent any shorts from occurring. You can find more information about this hack/fix on this website: http://web.archive.org/web/20071020040452/http://girasoli.org/arcade/?p=265.
Of course, you must know what monitor chassis you have in your cabinet before you can determine the changes that need to be made to repair the curl issue. You can determine this by going to the What’s My Monitor page on Bob’s site and comparing your chassis to the chassis pictures on that page. Please let us know if you have a different chassis than the ones listed above or any other questions and we’ll try to help you out further.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
