SEGA OUTRUN

Question from Albert: Hello, I have a non working Sega Outrun that I picked up recently that’s been driving me nuts for the last week and I can’t figure it out. The PCB is a revision B and has no sound or video. The monitor chassis is brand new and working along with the monitor. I checked all voltages from power and all are good. Both PCB boards have LED lights working and all chips are getting 5v. Every once and a while the steering goes crazy shaking and it starts getting flickering color bars on the screen along with the start button lighting up simultaneous with the screen flickering like it wants to turn on. Checked all wires, grounds, switches etc. I even disconnected all harnesses except for 5v to pcb and video just to eliminate everything else and still does the same thing just without the shaking and start button flickering (the screen does the same thing). Could it be that this board is dead? Thx, Albert

Response from Jonathan: Albert,

From your description, it sounds like this is going to be a board issue. You might check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board if you haven’t already and follow the steps provided. Also, I believe this board uses 2 Motorola 68000 CPU chips. Have you tried swapping them out with working ones? CPU chips like these are a common fail point when the board will not boot.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
