Jamma sound and volume

Question from Steve: Wow. Please help! I have everything set up on my Dynamo JAMMA cab only one problem. I have a SVC Chaos pcb board and volume is soooooo loud I can’t even play. I have traced to speaker wire all the way to both speakers and am unable to find a way to adjust it. I also tried the test switch on the cab but unfortunately this wire has been pulled off the JAMMA harness and I am unsure what type of conector to look for to re- install it. If I can get this problem resolved and the test switch set up I can begin the cosmetic restoration of this game. Please help me out I am just dying to have my first completely working and restored cab. Thanks for the second time. Steve

P.S. – I am from Northern California so if you guys ever need any type of help from around here don’t hesitate to let me know.

Response from Jonathan: Steve,

Sounds like you’ve tried most of the methods that we would have tried to adjust the volume up to this point. Good news is that you do have a couple of options left to help you tackle this issue.

First off, it is a good idea to wire up the test button regardless of whether or not it helps you with your volume issue. If the pin/wire for the test button is missing from the JAMMA harness, you may need to add a new pin/wire to that slot in your JAMMA edge connector. You can do this by crimping a push in terminal (http://www.twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=177_184&products_id=1115&zenid=0634md7q4a3882bfuqvphceiv0) on a wire and inserting it into the correct slot on your edge connector. If there is a pin already in that slot, you may need a pin extractor (http://www.twistedquarter.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=71&products_id=983) to remove the existing pin. Please note that you can use a hair pin, paper clip or a jeweler’s screwdriver (needs to be a small one to work) to remove these pins but the tool does make the process a bit easier. Once you do this, you should be able to wire up the test button by connecting this wire and a ground wire to a microswitch.

Now, let’s say you get into the test mode but there’s still no option to turn down the volume. In this case, you can wire up a 5k potentiometer between your speakers and the board to control your sound level. Here’s a diagram to help you figure out how to do this: http://scarvell.net/wiki/images/3/37/Vol_Pot_Wiring.jpg. You can get the 5k pot from Bob Roberts at http://www.therealbobroberts.net. Visit the parts page and do a search for “Volume Pot 5K Ohm” and you should find what you need. If you decide to try and install this pot, please let us know if you have any trouble with it.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
