cherry master eight liner 19 inch crt monitors

Question from James: Good afternoon. I probably have a rather stupid question for you but I need to get an answer and have pretty much exhausted my avenues. I have numerous games (i.e. Defender, Xevious, Missile Command) that had bad monitors in one way or another. As I was searching for monitor replacements, I came across some cherry master/8 liner 19 inch CRTs on eBay. I bought them and received and installed and the games play blind still. I’ve got good neck glow so I am totally at a loss. Are these monitors compatible in arcade games? Checked wires on video input and red green blue are installed correctly. If you can provide me any type of information it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. James

Response from Jonathan: James,

Most of the 8liners cabinets that we’ve seen use monitors that are very similar to the ones you would find in an arcade cabinet (i.e. standard resolution (15 kHz), similar wiring layout, etc.). Of course, there could be a chance that the batch you bought are different. The fact that you’re getting neck glow seems to indicate that the monitor does not like the video signal that’s coming from the board.

I know you said that your RGB wires were installed correctly but you might double check your video ground and sync wires as well. Typically you would at least get something on the screen if these wires were not hooked up properly (even if it was a little scrambled). You might also try turning up the brightness on the monitor to see if you can get a white screen. This should somewhat eliminate the possibility of an issue with the monitor.

Have you tried to identify the brand/model of the monitor chassis? That would probably be my first step just to make sure that they support standard resolution. You might send us a picture of the monitor chassis if you need help identifying it. I can’t think of anything else off the top of my head that would keep these monitors from working in your arcade cabinets.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and keep us updated on your progress.
