Intermittent green
Question from Brad: Hi Guys! Enjoy watching your videos and all the help you give everyone. I’ve been doing a lot of research on how to fix my current problem. Have an idea but wanted to pick your brains to see if I’m on the right track. I have a NFL Blitz cabinet (Wells Gardner U5000 monitor) that I converted to MAME. Green is intermittent at times. Usually when it heats up it will drop. I can adjust the brightness or contrast pot in the back and can get it to come back. It will go out again later usually. On arcade forums they say to replace green color drive transistor. I purchased one and I’m waiting for it to come in. I did notice that the neck board looks a little brown on the red and green traces. I resoldered those but still have the problem. Please let me know your thoughts and what else I should do or if I’m on the right track. I greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks and keep up the good work on the videos! Brad

Response from Jonathan: Brad,
Sounds like you are on the right track. The green color drive transistor can definitely cause this type of issue. Check out our post on Checking A Monitor Tube for more information on color drive transistors. The only thing I might add would be to check the solder on the pins where the connector for your harness comes into your chassis. The solder on these pins tends to loosen and/or crack over time and can cause issues like this. All you need to do to touch it up is add a little bit of solder to these pins on the solder side of your monitor chassis.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
