Hydro Thunder Monitor Issue. Possible Collapse?
Question from Chad: Hey Guys. First off, thanks for all the effort you put into making your resource truly accessible. You’ve done a great job of simplifying fairly dense material and making it easily available. I’m just starting off as an electrical engineering student, and right now I’m helping a local arcade get some older machines up and running. Most of the machines have had problems that I can fix easily (broken switches or bad pots etc), but this machine is suffering from some monitor related malady that I’m not quite familiar enough with to diagnose. The machine powers up fine, and occasionally you can even see the things you’re supposed to on-screen, for a bit. The picture then fades to a white/grey and then will frequently degrade to a point where it becomes two white horizontal lines with not much else. I’ve already removed and inspected the video chassis. To my noob eyes, all the solder joints look fine, and there are no components “jumping out” at me as bad looking, or looking like they’ve fried. Any thoughts on the next analytical step? Does this look like anything tell-tale to you? Thanks again for all your hard work. Chad from Bozeman, MT
Addendum: The chassis does have a sticker on it with the following cryptic numbers: WGM2575-U4TR04J and 054A7501-003. Not sure if either of these indicate anything about who made this thing. Thanks again for the help!

Response from Jonathan: Chad,
The first number (WGM2575-U4TR04J) that you gave me is definitely a Wells Gardner model number. I cross-referenced this number using the board parts by location chart and found that you have a Wells Gardner K7501 chassis. Wells Gardner has some great resources on this monitor that I’m going to refer you to before we get into our repair recommendations. The most helpful to you will probably be the K7500 Series Repair Guide as it basically lists the repairs for many of the common problems of this monitor. The manual also has a bunch of information that should also help you out with your repair. Of course, if you have any specific questions about these repairs or steps please let us know and we’ll try to help you out.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
