A couple questions...
Question from Joe: Good Morning. First off, love the website and videos. They are really going a long way in helping me learn. I just picked up an old Double Dragon machine and I had a couple questions. Mostly I’m looking to confirm what I have learned from your videos. I’ve attached two photos as a reference. I’m having to play “detective” to rebuild the unit because the power supply had been ripped out and a few connections undone before I started on the machine.
1. Am I correct in saying that in Photo 1 – the JAMMA harness is the item attached to the PCB? [99% sure that it is].
2. This is where I got confused… in Photo 2 there is an additional set of wires screwed to the control drawer. My assumption is that the JAMMA harness originally was wired to these which are then wired to the control panel. Accordingly I’m assuming this was just to keep the wires organized better… and that is the only purpose of this block in Photo 2. Can you please confirm?
3. My third question is whether you have any theories on what the block on the far left side of Photo 2 is for? Some of the wires looks like they would have gone to the power supply.
4. Last question – I noticed most things are connected via molex connectors. Love your videos on these. Because I’d like to rewire things into new connectors (power supply, iso), do you know what size molex pins TAITO typically used in their machines? Should I just buy all pin sizes to have them on hand?
I really appreciate your time and any thoughts you have on this unit. Best Regards, Joe

Response from Jonathan: Joe,
Glad you like the website and the videos. We’re glad that our content is helping you out with your repairs. As for your questions:
> 1. Am I correct in saying that in Photo 1 – the JAMMA harness is the item attached to the PCB? [99% sure that it is].
Yes. You are correct. So, now you can be 100% sure. =)

Without seeing the rest of the wiring, I would assume your first assumption is correct. This is a distribution block that looks like it’s being used for the JAMMA wiring. This is kind of strange but I guess it might act as a connector between the control panel and the harness. Usually there are Molex connectors that are used for this purpose but perhaps the operator didn’t have access to them at the time or he wanted a way to disconnect the harness from the cabinet easier. Those are the only guesses I can come up with off the top of my head.
> 3. My third question is whether you have any theories on what the block on the far left side of Photo 2 is for? Some of the wires looks like they would have gone to the power supply.
The block on the far left is also a distribution block most likely being used to distribute the AC power coming into your cabinet or the DC power coming out of your power supply. Of course, you can check this by using your multimeter. This is a FAR more common use for a distribution block.

No, unfortunately I do not know the size of Molex pins that Taito typically uses in their machines. I know that 0.93 is the most common. I would probably order a bunch of every size. They are cheap and good to have around as different cabinets use different size pins.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repair.
