monitor issues

Question from Luis: Hello, my name is Luis. This is my first arcade machine. I pick up a King of Boxer in a Phoenix cabinet for free on craigslist the other day. He said the picture was dark and you could barely see the character. Well, I got it home, adjusted the picture and wow it works but now the green in the picture has disappeared. It’s now black, red and blue. I followed the instructions on your video to check if it was the tube but that’s ok so is it the color transistor? Hope to hear back from you. I have attached pictures. Thanks.

Response from Jonathan: Luis,

Sounds like you are on the right track. The green color drive transistor could definitely be causing your issue. The color drive transistors are usually located on the neck board and can be replaced quite easily. You might also check the green potentiometers if you are sure that the transistor is working properly.

Another area to check would be the connection/wires coming in from your harness to the monitor chassis. Make sure that the green wire in particular is not frayed or damaged. It’s also common for the pins on the monitor chassis where you plug in the connector to become loose over time. You might touch up the solder on the back of these pins to ensure that they are making a good connection to the monitor chassis.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
