Monitor Repair

Question from Josh: I have an old G07 monitor that I have preformed the Bob Roberts Deluxe repair kit, replacing the HOT, Flyback, Regulator, Caps and tested the fuses. I know that power is flowing to the board as every time I try and power up the monitor I must discharge the large capacitor on the board. The tube itself is not power up though, I am uncertain at this point if the flyback is receiving power or not and I am still very much a novice. I really do not know where to go from here, no power goes to the tube, I get no neck glow. Unfortunately I have no way to test the tube or even have a second tube to try the chassis on. I am wondering if you have any tips or tricks, or if there is someone I could send this chassis to for a more expert analysis/repair job.

Response from Jonathan: Josh,

Have you tried turning the brightness all the way up to see if you get a white screen? This should tell us whether you are having a video input issue or a power issue. Also, never underestimate the power of a bad/cracked solder joint. Highly recommend going through the HV section and touching up all the solder points. If you continue to have issues after touching up all of the solder points, you might check transistors X303 and X304 to see if they are working properly. If not, replace them and see if that gets your monitor up and running.

As far as expert analysis/repair goes, we do have some people we recommend. Chad at arcadecup.com is a very reputable guy and has a pretty fast turn around time. You could also contact our friend Arthur at highscoresrepair.com. He has answered several questions on our Facebook page in the past and definitely knows what he’s doing. There is a list of additional monitor repair technicians on our resources page under the Monitor Repair Services & Information heading as well.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
