Silent Scope

Question from Julie: Hello, I purchased my son a “Silent Scope” game today from an arcade that was going out of business. I found a manual on-line today, but it is confusing to me. We can’t find the “power switch” on the machine. The manual talks about one. If we plug the machine in, it comes on, but I am not sure that unplugging it when finished is the correct way to shut it down every time? Also, we desperately need to turn it down. In the manual it shows some service and test options and the volume controlled this way. There are two buttons inside the front that look like they are supposed to be the service and test buttons. But, when depressed neither one of them did anything. But, to be honest, I am not sure what they are supposed to do. And, the game is soooo loud we can hardly stand there to mess with it. You have an amazing website. I tried to watch several videos to see if I could find this information on my own. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Also, when they were moving it today, they broke a plastic part off. Is there a place for surplus parts? It’s cosmetic, but doesn’t look very good. Thank you! Julie

According to page 23 of the Silent Scope manual (http://www.aurcade.com/games/manuals/00000483.pdf), it looks like the main power switch can be found on the power supply itself which is located on the back, bottom side of the cabinet. Please check out the diagram on that page for more information. If for some reason the power switch is not there, it is perfectly OK to just unplug the game to turn it off. The main power switch should cut power to the game when set to the off position which is basically the same thing that happens when you unplug it.

Yes, you are correct. These buttons inside the front (or coin) door should be the test and service buttons. According to page 15 of the Silent Scope Manual, you will need to access the test menu in order to turn down the volume. The manual also says that the game should be in attract mode in order to access the test menu. In other words, make sure that the game is not being played and then try to press the test button. If the menu does not come up, it could be an issue with the wiring from the test button to your board or with the test button itself. At this point, it’s going to take some detective skills on your part to figure out which situation it is.

I’m not sure which piece you are referring but there are some retailers that sell replacement parts. One of the biggest coin-op parts providers is Suzo/Happ and they have a Silent Scope section on their website. Here’s a link: http://na.suzohapp.com/parts/arcade_parts/konami_usa/silent_scope/. If you can’t find the specific part you are looking for on their website, you might try contacting them directly to see if they can help you out.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repairs.
