Help needed
Question from George: I just bought a Galaga Multicade on Craigslist. I understand this was a ~2400$ machine originally. It has 46 games on it, but I have a problem. My kids started messing with it and its stuck in coin-operated mode, and the sound seems to be cranked all the way up. It only works with quarters now and plays very loud annoying music that repeats about every 15 seconds. The guy I bought this from has no key to the coin door, and I am at a loss! Can I get a key from you guys? Can you help me get this back into non-coin operated mode? Thanks so much, I really enjoyed the videos and articles I read on your site so far. Response from Jonathan: George,
It sounds like the settings on your board have been reset. You will need to get into the test mode of the board in order to set the settings back to the way they were. You can do this by pressing the test or service button which is usually located inside your arcade cabinet’s coin door. You may also be able to access this menu by flipping the 4th switch on the dip switch bank on your board to the on position but this depends on which version of the board you have. Here’s a manual that explains a bit more about this process: http://www.jammaboards.com/arcade_manuals/39-in-1_Multi-JAMMA_PCB_Manual.pdf
Now, you might have noticed that both of these require gaining access to the inside of the arcade cabinet. Unfortunately we do not sell keys for these locks but we do have a post that discusses how you can “break in” to your arcade cabinet. Check out our post on Replacing A Coin Door Lock for more information.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
