Do you do repairs.

Question from Warren: I have a 2008 Golden Tee Unplugged. I bought it new in 2008. The guy I bought it from put it in a Golden Tee Complete Cabinet. Until 2010 the machine worked flawlessly. In 2010 the monitor burned out. Since then, I have been playing with a computer monitor that stands on the side of the machine. Yesterday, I went to play and the monitor was not getting a signal. The machine turns on but beeps. What I want to do is saw off the top of the machine (mostly monitor and banner). This would make a pedestal. I would then hook it up to a TV. I also want to buy the software I see on eBay that updates the system to 2015. This sounds like I need a professional. Let me know if you think it is something I can do by myself. Thank you very much for your time. Warren

Response from Jonathan: Warren,

Getting the no signal message on your monitor and the beeping sounds from the game seem to indicate that your board may be having some issues. Before we start to suspect the board, check the power supply to make sure that the correct voltages are getting to your board. Sometimes the power supply on games that receive a lot of physical action (such as Golden Tee) can become jostled and start outputting lower voltages. Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information. Your power supply is probably somewhat different that the one we discuss in the post but the concepts should be the same. Make sure you consult your manual for more troubleshooting steps. Here’s a link to a digital copy of it in case you don’t own one: http://amusement.itsgames.com/downloads/manuals/GT_Unplugged_Manual_1107.pdf

Yes, you should be able to convert your upright to a pedestal cabinet if that’s what you want to do. Keep in mind that there are people who will repair the arcade monitor that’s currently in your cabinet if you would like to keep it the way it is. The only thing you would be required to do is to remove the monitor chassis from the game and ship it to a monitor repair technician which we discuss in our post on Removing And Installing A Monitor Chassis. Chad at arcadecup.com is a very reputable monitor repair tech and has a pretty fast turn around time. You could also contact our friend Arthur at highscoresrepair.com. He has answered several questions on our Facebook page in the past and definitely knows what he’s doing. There is a list of additional monitor repair technicians on our resources page under the Monitor Repair Services & Information heading as well.

Another thing that should be mentioned is that Incredible Technologies (the company that makes Golden Tee) is still in business and should be able to help you out. They would be better with questions like what updates you can do on your current hardware as well as helping you troubleshoot any advanced issues with your board. Here’s a link to their contact page for additional information: http://www.itsgames.com/contact/new

Hopefully that gives you some good information. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your repair.
