Ms Pacman wavy picture

Question from Cory: Hi, I have a Ms. Pac Man upright arcade machine that I have had for 10+ years. It plays good and has good color. It has always had a noticeable 1″ vertical wave that goes from right to left across the screen. It has gotten more annoying lately. I would like to fix this problem. I have been reading everything I could find on this issue. Some say to recap it and some say it is just a power supply problem (fuse block or connectors). Can you tell me what is the first things to check? I did try all the monitor adjustments I got off of your video. By the way, I love the videos on the site. I did my first monitor discharge today using your step by step instructions. Thank you, Cory in Indiana

Response from Jonathan: Cory,

First off, thank you for your kind words about our videos. We’re glad that you find the information helpful. Also, congrats on your first monitor discharge. That’s a big step in getting familiar with arcade repair. Again, congrats.

By your description, it sounds like you are experiencing the hum bar effect with your Ms. Pac Man cabinet. Lawnmowerman’s Pac-man Website has some great information on how to get rid of the hum bar which is a common problem with Pac Man cabinets. BTW, you definitely need to bookmark the Lawnmowerman site as it has lots of great information about Pac Man cabinets in general. Of course, the first thing he mentions to do is replace the fuse block which is what we also recommend. He also has some additional steps you can follow just in case it doesn’t get rid of the issue but replacing the fuse block usually fixes the problem.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
