Power Supply question
Question from Tony: Hello all. I just found your site not half an hour ago when looking for information on how to wire/swap a power supply. I learned a lot from the 8ish minute video. I know nothing about arcade cabinets and decided to learn the old fashioned way and that’s by building one from scratch 🙂 With that said, the video helped me a lot with the power supply, but I’m not sure what everything means. My power supply has the following screws from top to bottom…
O +12V/4A
O -5V/1A
O —
| GND
O —
O +5V/16A
O FG
O AC 1
O AC 2
The “O” represent the screws. I did it like that so you could see that the “GND” has 2 screws. So I’m assuming that the first 5 screws are all for the wires from the JAMMA Harness and that the bottom 3 will actually be for the plug that goes into the wall/power strip correct? Assuming that is correct, I’ll move onto my real question.
From the video, I’ve gathered that the “FG” will be the ground. I’m uncertain which of the “AC1” and “AC2” are the Live and the Neutral. Do you guys know or how I can test it? The power supply that I’m using is the Min Dong MD-9916A if that helps any.
Thank you very very much for your time.
Tony

Response from Jonathan: Tony,
Yes, your assumption is correct. The DC voltage screws should be wired to the JAMMA harness and the AC voltage screws should be wired to the power cord. We typically put the black wire (or AC Hot/Line/Live) on the AC1 screw and the white wire (or AC Neutral) on the AC2 screw. With that said, unless the power supply specifies the placement of the AC wires, it should be fine to wire it either way.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
