Gorf arcade game
Question from David: Greetings. I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but here it goes. I am in the process of building my own Gorf arcade cabinet. This cabinet is going to be a dedicated Gorf game but it is going to utilize a MAME setup for gameplay. I have not had any luck locating an original Gorf to restore, so that is why I am taking this route. I do have an original rank light system board from a Gorf game. Is there any way to connect this light system to work on my MAME computer? What about connecting the fire trigger lights in the joystick to work properly as well? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if these seem like dumb questions. I just don’t know who else to ask. Thanks.

Response from Jonathan: David,
We are not sure if it is possible to connect an original Gorf light system board up to a computer as we have never tried or researched the topic. Of course, you could probably simulate it using some sort of USB LED driver board (or controller). The same goes for the lights in the joystick. Now, The fire trigger and joystick should be able to be connected to a computer using some sort of keyboard encoder. Since you are just starting out this project, it’s probably a good idea to check out Groovy Game Gear and Ultimarc. Both companies specialize in MAME interface boards that will help you with your project. You might want to also check out the BYOAC page and forums as it has some great information on how to build different interfaces for MAME cabinets. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any specific questions in the future.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your questions and good luck with your project.
