dynamo cabinet; hard to open control deck
Question from Ramon: Hello, I just got my first arcade cabinet and have seen your videos which are very helpful as I am a first time owner of an arcade. I saw your video on how to “open up your arcade” which shows the coin slot, control deck and rear opening of an arcade. The model I just purchased is a Dynamo Cabinet (Street Fighter) and recently I was trying to open the control deck. The latches underneath have been detached just like in the video but, the control deck will not flip back. I checked to see if there are any other latches but I only found 3 and all have been un-latched. No other screws or bolts and supporting it so now, I can’t seem to open the control panel. Any idea on how I can open it up? Is there a trick when it comes to these Dynamo machines on opening up the control deck?
I’d appreciate any help/advice you can give. Thank you, Ramon

Update from Ramon on 10/7/2015:
I found out that the cabinet I recently purchased is a Dynamo HS-9(A). I was never aware and maybe it is only my cabinet that has this but, the control deck is also anchored down not only by the latches but also by some brackets and bolts. I searched high and low across the web, Google, yahoo, YouTube, arcade forms and any other sources for pics and video with no luck about the extra control deck support. I searched your data base for Q&A’s with no luck also. I ended up taking my cell phone camera and stuck it inside the arcade to see what else was holding it back. That’s how I found out about the extra support on the control deck.
Since there is no video or reference material for the HS-9(A), maybe you guys should make a video. The only other video that is the closest thing to my cabinet is a HS5 version but that model still does not have the extra brackets anchoring down the control deck.
FYI: The nuts on the bracket are sized 11mm. Then again, this was my model so not sure if anyone else’s cabinets might be different.
Thanks again for the information.

Response from Jonathan: Ramon,
Make sure that when you unlatch the latches that they are actually moved away from the catch that the latch would normally close on. Even though the latch is open, sometimes it will still make contact with the catch when trying to open the control panel. When you open each latch, make sure it’s at almost a 90 degree angle from the catch and that should help.
Now, sometimes control panels can be hard to open due to several factors: it could be that the control panel hasn’t been opened for a while, the cabinet was painted/repaired which made the control panel fit tighter than it did when the cabinet was initially built, etc. In some cases, you will need to apply some significant force in order to get the control panel open. Of course, you want to be careful with how much force you apply because you can damage the cabinet, control panel or other parts of the cabinet if you pull too hard. As long as you apply slow, increasing pressure you should be able to get the control panel open without damaging the cabinet.
If you continue to have problems opening your control panel, you might send us some pictures of your cabinet so we can get a better idea of what might be causing the hang up. Hope that helps. Thank you for you question and good luck with your future repairs.
