60-in-1 question

Question from Mitch: Hello, I’m restoring an original Pac Man and I’m using a 60-in-1 with a new wiring harness. I have attached a picture of the player one and two start buttons. I do not want to add another fire button to the machine. Can I use that top pin on the microswitch to hook up the fire button or do I splice the fire button and the player start button together? Thank You very much, Mitch

Response from Jonathan: Mitch,

Great question. You will need to splice the fire button and the player start button wires together. Unfortunately that top pin is for a “normally closed” position which means that your arcade board would detect that the fire button was continuously pressed down until the button was pressed down at which point the fire button would be released. This is the exact opposite functionality of what you are trying to accomplish (which is why we don’t use the top pin very often in wiring buttons). If you splice the 2 wires together though and put them on the pin closest to the ground, it should work in the manner you are describing. Hope that helps.
