Question about scrambled picture on Big Buck Hunter 2 cabinet
Question from Evan: Hi, I’m looking at getting a Big Buck Hunter 2 game from a local seller. He said the only issue is that the screen image is scrambled. He said he sent the chassis out for repair and came back with scrambled video, but it boots up and he can hear game sounds. He was told it sounded like a horizontal sync issue, but never got around to doing anything else with it. I have a Big Buck Hunter 2 cabinet already that had a unrepairable main board in it and we were thinking about buying this one and swapping the guts since our monitor was good. Does this sound like it would work or is there possibly something wrong with his board and that’s why the image is scrambled? This is the picture he sent me.

Response from Jonathan: Evan,
It looks like this Big Buck Hunter 2 game is having some sort of sync issue as you mentioned. Typically sync issues indicate an problem with the monitor chassis but that is not always the case. The fact that he sent the chassis out for repair and it came back like this might lead us to think that it is an issue with the board. Of course, it could also be that the monitor chassis was damaged in shipping or had additional problems that the person repairing the monitor was unaware of.
Your plan to swap the guts between the cabinets is worth the risk if the price is right. The chances that this issue is an actual game board problem are slim and the fact that the game boots up and outputs game sounds is a good indicator that it is working properly. If the problem with your Big Buck Hunter 2 is just the main board, swapping the board from this cabinet in to your cabinet might be just the thing to get it working again. Also, the fact that the monitor chassis has been repaired in this game leads us to believe that you might be able to fix the picture by either adjusting the monitor settings or checking the input wires coming in to the monitor chassis from the board. In other words, it could be an easy fix depending on the state of the monitor chassis.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
