Atari Dominos
Question from Nick: Hello. I have a 1977 Atari Dominos. It is a black and white game. It was playing fine when all of a sudden I lost the black player graphics. I then lost the white player graphics. Now the game just plays blind. The monitor neck still glows and monitor adjustments change the screen, but no game graphics appear on the screen. I suspect a monitor issue. Do you have any ideas? Thanks, Nick

Response from Jonathan: Nick,
Sorry we have not gotten back to you sooner. This time of year is very busy for us as far as questions are concerned. Please forgive our late reply.
From your description, it does sound more like a monitor issue but we wouldn’t rule out a problem with the game board. With that said, we recommend starting off this repair by checking out our post on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind. This post has some great information on repairing monitors in this state. Even though your monitor is black and white, many of the concepts we talk about in this post are universal for raster monitors regardless of the amount of colors on the screen. We would also recommend taking a look at the Bally Midway Monitor Troubleshooting Guide as it does have a section on troubleshooting black and white monitors that might help you out as well. Of course, if you have any specific questions about your monitor feel free to contact us again and we’ll try to help you out.
ADDENDUM: After reading the question again, I’m starting to lean more towards a board issue. The fact that you lost the black player graphics then the white player graphics is what is pushing me more in that direction. You might try checking your power supply just to be sure that it is getting the correct voltage to the game board. You might also check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for some tips to hopefully help you get your board working again. One more thing: we HIGHLY recommend checking out the manual for this game. Early arcade manuals are great for troubleshooting as they are written to help people repair games who have never done so before. Hopefully it has some information in it that will help you out.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
