60-in-1 first time swap
Question from Kevin: Hey guys, I just watched a few of your videos on the JAMMA kits for Pac Man and Ms. Pac Man and also the videos on JAMMA harnesses and wiring and so on. I’m looking to do my first 60-in-1 board swap on a cab and had a few questions. I have an Atari Driving Force game from Namco 1984, but it looks IDENTICAL to the Pac Man cabinet and setup besides the control panel button layout. Honestly, I swear I can see remnants of the Pac Man side art on the cab but everywhere I look online it looks like the original Driving Force cabinet to me. My question is if this game is identical to the Pac cab is it possible to use the JAMMA kit for the Pac/Ms. Pac still and just have to wire the buttons a little different? Don’t want to order the wrong stuff but this cab is seriously identical, to the point like I said I can see the Pac Man side art a little still. Not sure if you know of this particular game or have any experience with it. Any advice?

Response from Jonathan: Kevin,
According to the Driving Force page on KLOV, it looks like Driving Force was a conversion kit that was often installed in Galaxian or Pac Man cabinets. In other words, someone installed an upgrade kit in your cabinet but instead of using a 60-in-1 board they installed some chips on the existing Galaxian / Pac Man board that was in the cabinet and converted it to a Driving Force board. Of course, this would explain why your cabinet looks like a Pac Man cabinet as it could have been at one point in it’s life.
With that said, it’s impossible to know if a multicade upgrade kit will work on this cabinet as it really depends on what was done to it during the conversion process. If the wiring harness is the same as Pac Man and no modifications were made to it then the kit should work fine. The only way to know this for sure would be to trace down each wire on the wiring harness to see if they are going to the same place that is indicated on the Pac Man pinouts. If everything matches then the upgrade kit should work fine. If not, you will probably need to rewire the cabinet a bit in order to get things working.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
