Buck Hunter help

Question from Shaun: Hi guys, I’ve read through a lot of your articles and comments sections and can’t seem to find a similar issue to the one I am having. Hoping you can help a first timer.

I have a Big Buck Hunter Pro updated to World Edition. It is my first machine and it wasn’t in perfect shape when I got it. One of the guns didn’t work so I replaced the optics board and got it going. One of the dongles was unplugged and sitting underneath the PC so I needed to figure that out before I could get it to load but everything is working fine now except the guns are not registering on the bottom few inches of the screen. In the signal strength screen there is a very clear cut off line at the bottom for both guns where the signal just dies. In gameplay it isn’t really noticeable since there isn’t a lot of shooting at the very bottom but when entering initials the gun can’t hit OK the majority of the time. I think I’ve got brightness, contrast and color all dialed in pretty good and I tried adjusting the bottom of the screen up a few inches but that still didn’t make a difference, even though the screen was farther up the monitor from the bottom I still couldn’t register a shot in the bottom couple of inches. The issue is also intermittent where sometimes it will register on the lower section and we can select OK on the screen. It seems to work for a couple of games and then not work the next couple of days.

Have you ever seen this issue? Thanks!
Shaun

Response from Jonathan: Shaun,

We have seen this issue before in some light gun games. Of course, if you haven’t check out our post on Troubleshooting Light Gun Issues we highly recommend taking a look at it. It gives you some great ideas on how to troubleshoot issues such as this. With that said, sometimes there can be other things causing this specific issue. For one, make sure that the front of your monitor tube is clean and free from dirt. It could be that the bottom half of the monitor is dirty which is causing it to register the light guns sporadically. Sometimes the position of the bezel (the plastic shroud that goes around the monitor) can cause issues like this so you might try adjusting it up or down to see if it helps the issue.

Now, it could actually be a monitor issue. Sometimes bad caps or other components can cause just a certain section of the picture to be darker that the rest. This darker part might not even be noticeable to you but it makes a world of difference to the light gun. With that said, you might try a cap kit on your monitor to see if it helps the issue. Check out our post on Installing A Cap Kit for more information on the process.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and keep us updated on your progress.
