Big Buck Hunter 2006
Question from Patrick: Good Morning, I am 100% new to the arcade machine world. I came upon a free Big Buck Hunter 2006: Call of the Wild machine here in Central, Illinois. Machine worked for the previous owner until it was moved into storage a month ago. There is no sound or picture BUT the boards, hard drive and marquee seem to load up fine. Is there a simple place to start? I’ve searched your great videos and tutorials and I’m just looking for a place to start troubleshooting. Thanks for any help you can give me. Patrick

Response from Jonathan: Patrick,
First off, congratulations on getting a free arcade game! It’s always great when you can get something for nothing. Again, congrats and welcome to the wonderful (and sometimes frustrating) world of arcade repair. =)
As for your question, even if you see the LEDs on the board light up and hear the hard drive spin up, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are working properly. We recommend starting off this repair by making sure that the power supply is working properly and getting the correct voltage to your board. Use your multimeter and the JAMMA pinouts (since Big Buck Hunter 2006: Call of the Wild is a JAMMA game) to make sure that the correct voltage is getting to the board. Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information.
Now, your arcade might have an ATX style power supply in it in which case the process to check the voltage might be a bit different than what we discuss in our post. The good news is that it’s actually easier to check. Basically you check the voltage at a connector instead of the screw contacts. The red wire is typically your +5 VDC and the yellow wire is typically your +12 VDC. Make sure you adjust the power supply up/down as needed. Keep in mind that if you cannot get the +5 and +12 both in range (typically within a tenth of a volt) then you may need to replace the power supply.
Also, since your game uses the JAMMA standard, you might also check out our posts on Getting Familiar With The JAMMA Standard so you can understand how it works. Of course, feel free to contact us again if you have any additional questions and we’ll try to help you out.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and keep us updated on your progress.
