Galaga power issues
Question from Mack: Hey Guys,
First, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with all of us and for taking the time to record your podcast. You guys are a great resource for arcade information and have helped me bring a Frogger back from the dead, and troubleshoot multiple other games. You guys help make the hobby possible for me, so thank you.
I am writing because I recently picked up a Galaga that has some issues. When powered up the screen comes on but doesn’t show the game, I also can’t get the game to coin up, or hear anything like the attract mode. When I was looking in the back the Midway Medium Power Supply (A082-90427-A000) had sparked a couple times and then I noticed one of the connections had a little too much juice and got toasted. I have attached some pictures of the inside of the cabinet and a close up of the burns. I have a couple questions:
– Is this a problem with the Transformer Board Assembly or the medium power supply?
– Where should I start to troubleshoot?
– Will I need to replace the burnt connector?
– Bob Roberts has a rebuild kit for the medium power supply, would that possibly fix this issue?
Let me know if you need any other info. Thanks, Mack

Response from Jonathan: Mack,
First off, thank you for the kind words about our content (especially our podcast). It really means a lot to us. People like you are the reason why we do what we do. We’re so glad that we were able to help you get your Frogger working again. It’s always great to hear that. Again, thanks.
As for your question, we would probably start off with the power supply on this one. Try installing the Bob Roberts power supply rebuild kit and see where you are at that point. It would be great if the power supply rebuild solves your issue (which it could) but that burned connector on the power supply (which we do recommend replacing BTW, Bob Roberts should have some replacements or know where to get one) could indicate that it had some serious voltage issues at one point which could have fried some other parts in the cabinet. Of course, we need to make sure that our voltage is good before we can troubleshoot the other parts and the power supply rebuild should help us with that.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and keep us updated on your progress.
