Terminator 2 Repair

Question from Ron: Hello, I have a Terminator 2 arcade game that is having an issue. The right gun doesn’t show the target reticle. The left gun works fine. When I go into the gun calibration screen, both guns calibrate fine. The X and Y axis numbers increase and decrease as expected. Shooting the upper left, middle and lower right calibration targets works too. When the game launches, the left gun aims and shoots without issue. The right gun reticle doesn’t appear but when I pull the trigger, the ammo and gun power levels decrease. Please let me know what I can do to troubleshoot as I am at a loss. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need to send to you for repair? Thank you, Ron

Response from Jonathan: Ron,

From your description, it sounds like your gun potentiometers are probably working correctly but there may be some other problems going on. You could be having some issues with your Coil Lamp Driver Board. This is the board that the guns plug into. First off, make sure that you check all of the fuses (there should be 4 or so) on this board to make sure they are not blown. The best way to check these fuses is with a multimeter. Check out our post on Checking Fuses With A Multimeter for more information. We would also recommend checking the wiring to make sure that both guns are making a good connection to this board.

If you continue to have issues after checking the fuses and the wiring then you could have an problem with the Coil Lamp Driver Board itself. At this point, you could try the diagnostics in the test/service menu to see if they indicate any problems with the board. You can also look on some of the different arcade forums and auctions sites to see if someone has a replacement board for sale. It might be worth contacting one of the entities under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading on our resources page to see if they can figure out what’s going on with your board as well.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
