1987 Bubble Bobble Arcade Monitor
Question from Keli: Hello, I’ve got a Bubble Bobble arcade cabinet that we purchased about 8 years ago. The machine worked excellent for years until one day when I turned it on the screen was all messed up (see picture attached). I have attempted to adjust color, horizontal/vertical and focus dials in the back, but with no luck. The game turns on, has sound and seems to work just fine with the exception of the image not focusing. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks in advance, Keli

Response from Jonathan: Keli,
It looks like you’re experiencing some sort of sync issue with your Bubble Bobble monitor. It’s possible that the sync wire that runs from your board to your monitor is not making a good connection. It could have come out of the connector, it could have been cut or damaged over time, the pin that the wire connects to could need some solder touch up on the monitor chassis, etc. Make sure you check these areas for issues. If you do end up removing the monitor chassis from your cabinet, you might try looking for cracked or cold solder joints on it while you have it out as these can cause issues such as this.
If the problem continues after checking the sync wire and touching up bad solder joints then it’s possible that some electronics parts could have died on your monitor chassis. It’s hard to know exactly which parts without knowing the brand and model of your monitor. At this point, you might try looking on the monitor chassis for this information or you could try comparing your chassis to the pictures on the What’s My Monitor page by Bob Roberts. Please let us know what monitor chassis you have and we’ll try to give you a better diagnosis of what’s going on with it.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
