Atari “Rush the Rock” driving game

Question from Dan: Somehow our game converted to coin operation only. We have had game for over 8 years with full play access, then without doing anything it converted to coin play. What to do to change back? Thanks.

Response from Jonathan: Dan,

It’s common for arcade games such as San Francisco Rush The Rock to lose their settings when the on board battery has died. If this is the case with your game, you will need to replace the battery on the board (labeled B1 in the manual) and change the menu options in the operator menu to allow for free play again. According to the manual for the game, the battery is a 3 volt coin cell battery like they use in watches. Unfortunately it doesn’t say the exact type in the manual. You should be able to get the model number off of it and get a replacement at your local battery store. Once the battery is replaced, you can follow the directions on pages 1-21 and 1-30 of the manual (which you can view here: http://arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Manuals_and_Schematics/San_Francisco_Rush_The_Rock_Alcatraz_Edition_(16-30031-101)_Oct_1997.pdf) to set your game back up on free play.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
