Nfl Blitz 2000/NBA Showtime joystick issue
Question from Rico: Hi, I was wondering if you knew the answer to my problem. I have a NFL Blitz 2000/NBA Showtime arcade game. I have replaced the power supply, hard drive, monitor board, and joysticks. The problem is when I’m playing a game the players sometimes move in the wrong or opposite direction than what I am controlling. It doesn’t happen all the time but when it does it’s frustrating. I’ve looked online but can’t seem to get an answer if you can help at all it would be great. Thank you.

Response from Jonathan: Rico,
Before we start troubleshooting your issue, it is important to note that some control panels will angle the joysticks in various degrees in order to make it easier for all 4 players to get around the same cabinet. Make sure you double check the angle that the joysticks are oriented on your cabinet to make sure that you are pressing the correct switches for the corresponding directions.
With that said, it could be an issue with the way the board is interpreting the directions from the joysticks. If you have 8-way joysticks in your cabinet, you might make sure that all of the wires are connected to the right pins on the harness and that they are not touching each other either near the switch, at the harness, or anywhere in between. If all the wiring looks good and the problem continues then you could have an issue with your boardset. If you have 49-way joysticks in your cabinet, you will need to check the wiring going to and coming from the input board (the I-40 PCB to be exact). Now, you could have an issue with the I-40 PCB itself. Unfortunately getting a replacement for this board can be difficult.
If you determine that the problem is somewhere in either your main boardset or the I-40 board, your best bet will be to ship it off to one of the entities under the Board (PCB) Repair & Component Sales heading on our resources page to see if they can repair it for you. I’ve also heard good things about Mike at arcade-service.com and I believe he specializes in this kind of hardware.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
