Star Wars video issues
Question from Justin: I just recently bought a Star Wars upright arcade game. The guy I bought it from had it for a long time and didn’t know how to fix it. He said the game turns on and plays sound but kept blowing fuses on the video board. I’m relatively new to arcade repair. What are some issues that I can go over and check off to see what’s wrong with the picture? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Justin

Response from Jonathan: Justin,
It sounds like you are having some monitor issues with your Star Wars arcade game. Based on your description, it sounds like your game is playing blind. This is how we describe games that power on and play sound but nothing comes on the screen. We have a post on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind that we recommend checking out. Even though the monitor in your Star Wars is a bit different that the one we discuss in the post (Star Wars uses a vector monitor while we used a raster monitor), it should give you an idea of what it will take to get it working.
Our friend Jeff Rothe has some great repair resources for Star Wars on his website which we highly recommend checking out. The X-Y monitor repair guides in particular should be able to help you out with this issue. He also has a link to the manual for the game which has some great troubleshooting techniques. Of course, please let us know if you have any questions about the information that you find on his website and we will do our best to help you out.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
