Non Conductive paste/grease
Question from Ed: Hey guys, what is the best to use for a HOT on a monitor chassis? Silicone? Also, would this be the same stuff to use on the big resistors on the chassis? I’m working on a G07-cbo. Also, does it matter which way resistors go? No polarity right? Sorry for all the questions. I’m new to the Hobby. Thank you, Ed

Response from Jonathan: Ed,
> What is the best to use for a HOT on a monitor chassis? Silicone?
We recommend using heat sink compound or thermal paste. We don’t recommend silicone. You can also use a rubber pad as well but this is not our personal preference.
> Also, would this be the same stuff to use on the Big resistors on the chassis?
The stuff on the chassis that’s used on the big resistors is called silastic which is a silicone type paste. This is different from heat sink compound or thermal paste as this is used to keep those big resistors in place. We prefer not to use this when we work on a chassis unless we have a part that won’t stay in place for some reason which is a rarity.
> Also, does it matter which way resistors go? No polarity right?
Yes, resistors can go either way. There is no polarity on them.

Not a problem and welcome to the wonderful world of arcade collecting! Sorry it took so long to get back to you but we’ve gotten quite a few questions this month. Hopefully next time we’ll be a little faster with our response. Also, we covered your question on the most recent episode of the Q&A Podcast. Please listen to it if you would like to hear more of our thoughts about your question. Here’s the link: http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/2017/03/27/qa-podcast-episode-s22/
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
