Burgertime arcade game playing blind
Question from Tim: Hello, I love checking out your videos and such and wondered if I could ask you a question about my friends Burgertime arcade game. It appears to be playing blind and I think we have two issues. One is that the monitor (it is a Wells Gardner from 1993) has a blown fuse and might need some work. The other was I tried to hook up GBS8200 to it to test on a PC monitor, but that is not working and I tested this on another arcade game and it worked ok.
When I first hooked up the ground of the video signal to the GBS8200 I got a spark and it started to melt the ground wire, I unhooked that immediately. When the wire melted and spark happened I had hooked up to the 5volt off the old power supply. I later tried a separate AC adapter and I am getting no signal. I suspect there might be something now that I need to check on the board.
We still get the noises of game play. Any suggestions of what to check on the board?

Response from Jonathan: Tim,
On the Wells Gardner monitor, a blown fuse usually indicates an issue in the high voltage section of the monitor. In this case, we recommend checking out our post on Troubleshooting Games That Are Playing Blind for some tips on what areas to check when your monitor is blowing a fuse.
As for the ground video signal wire causing a spark, this is very strange. This could be caused by the power cord going to the game not being wired properly or other wiring issues inside your cabinet. It could also be caused by the board sending some funky feedback along that video signal. We recommend checking all of your wiring a voltages with and without the main game board plugged in and see what you get. Make sure that there’s not a voltage wire touching a ground wire at any point in the cabinet as this could definitely cause this issue. The good news is that if you’re still getting sound from the game board there’s a good chance that it’s still working. There is a possibility that you blew something in the video output section of the board but it’s hard to know for sure if we can’t connect a display to it so see if you can get that going before suspecting anything on the board itself. Please let us know if you continue to have issues after checking these areas of your cabinet and we’ll try to help you out further.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
