Galaga Full Size Upright

Question from Mike: Hello,

I just found you website, it’s great!! I recently aquired a full size Galaga upright arcade game. When you power it on, you hear the sound, but on the monitor, it will only display vertical scrolling lines. I have found the vertical and horizontal holds based on information on your site. However I can’t get a clear picture on the screen, only the scrolling vertical lines? Any idea what might be causing this? Any help you can provide is much appreciated

Thanks
Mike

Response from Jonathan: Mike,

It sounds like your monitor may be out of sync. We would start off this repair by checking the wires and connector that come from the board harness to the monitor chassis. Make sure your sync wires are making a good connection to the board. Remember that the pins on the chassis where the monitor plugs in tend to loosen up over time. You might even touch up the solder on these pin just to make sure a good connection is being made.

It could also be a problem with your B+ voltage on your chassis but typically the monitor will go black instead of showing an out-of-sync screen. You might check it anyway just to make sure you’re getting around 110 VAC from it. Also, a picture of the issue you are having would be very helpful. Please send us one if you need further help with this issue.

Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
