sound issue PCB Arcade Tips
Question from Doug: Jonathan,
Good morning. I hope you and Tim are doing well. I recently picked up an IREM Skins gold game and got it operational. Everything is working well with the exception of the sound. When I hook the speaker up to JAMMA it makes a violent pulsing with no game sound. It makes a reverb sound is the best way I can describe it. There looks to be a volume knob on the PCB that controls the violent reverb. Any ideas? Please see pictures attached.

Response from Jonathan: Doug,
Let’s start by referring you to our post on Troubleshooting Games With Sound Issues as it has a lot of great information on your problem. With that said, I am looking at your pictures and noticed that at least one cap in the audio section of your Skins Game board is bad. I have attached the picture and put a red box around the offending cap. If there is one cap bad, there could be other parts in this area of the board that are not working properly. Highly recommend checking out all of the parts in this area of the board to make sure they are good. A good rule of thumb is to follow the trace on the board that goes to that cap and see if there are any other parts on the line that are damaged or not working. Of course, please let us know if you have any additional questions once you have tried the troubleshooting techniques we have discussed in this email and we’ll try to help you out further.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
