Spy Hunter Arcade Repair

Question from Dennis: Hello,
I have installed the new roberts cables on the boards on my spy hunter arcade game. When a power the game I get a scrambled screen with random letters. I have put new fuses and I think all of the connections are correct. I have a link to my youtube page with the video of the game with the scrambled screen. http://youtu.be/40gH-mE4EpA

Can you take a look and give me a starting point on what I can do? Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Dennis

Response from Jonathan: Dennis,

Probably the best place to start off would be the power supply. These Midway MCR based games can be quite picky about getting the right voltage. Check the power using a multimeter to make sure it is correct. The Spy Hunter Manual can help you out a bit with this process. The manual also talks about a RAM/ROM check test mode that you can put the game in to see if all those chips are working properly. Check out page 3 for more information on that feature.

Here’s also a great general FAQ on Midway MCR games that might help you in your troubleshooting: http://www.gamefaqs.com/arcade/916363-arcade-games/faqs/9464. Give it a look over as it has some great information in it.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
