White Horizontal Lines
Question from Ken: Hello, I’m having some issues with a game I just picked up. I’m getting these horizontal lines and upside down text as you can see in the photos on the top of the screen. If I make the screen smaller I can get rid of most of it and can read the text, but that’s not optimal. I’ve also found a few ground wires (I think) that aren’t hooked up to anything. To fix the issue with the lines all I can read is that I should re-cap which I’m a little uncomfortable about but willing to do. I’m also concerned if I have to removed the chassis that I won’t ground it correctly if those wires should be hooked up and aren’t. So, I guess my questions are: do you think the caps need to be replaced and am I safe doing it or am I totally wrong altogether? Thanks! Ken

Response from Jonathan: Ken,
From your description and pictures, it looks like the “stretching” effect you are experiencing at the top of your screen is indeed caused by some bad capacitors (or caps) on your monitor chassis. We recommend installing a cap kit on your chassis to see if it solves the issue. Check out our post on Installing A Cap Kit for more information. Yes, the process is completely safe as long as you observe the safeguards we discuss in our posts on Safely Discharging An Arcade Monitor and Removing And Installing A Monitor Chassis. Please let us know if the problem continues after installing the cap kit and we’ll try to help you out further.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
