Pole position question stand up version
Question: I recently purchased a Pole Position Atari arcade machine. I plugged it in and I have some sound coming out but the screen looks all jumbled and there’s a lot of dust on the inside. What would be the best way to clean the inside of the cabinet and also clear up the screen. I’m about to order a copy of your DVD!

Response from Jonathan: To clean out the cabinet, we recommend using a Shop-Vac to get most of the dust and debris out of the cabinet. You might also try using some Swiffer Dry Cloth wipes to get the rest of the dust out of the cabinet. Keep in mind that you can also use a cleaning solution like Windex and a paper towel to clean the inside of the cabinet as well as any glass parts (i.e. marquee, bezel, etc.). For tips on cleaning and checking the main board, check out our post on Inspecting An Arcade Board for more information.
As for clearing up the jumbled screen, it sounds like you might be having a board issue but you might try checking the power first just to make sure all of your voltage is good getting to the board. You can check the power at the harness of the board to see if it’s getting power. Please see our post on Checking A Classic Power Supply for more information. You will also need the pinouts for Pole Position to do this. These can be obtained from CrazyKong.com. Start off with this check and follow up by making sure you have a good connection from your board to the monitor. Also, the previously mentioned Inspecting An Arcade Board post might help you out with this issue as well. Please let us know if you continue to have problems and we’ll try to help you out.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
