Volume controls inquiry
Question from Ray: Hello, I wanted to know if it is possible to put volume controls on a dedicated arcade cabinet. When I turn the game on the volume is way to high and I always have to go into the coin door to adjust volume in the control panel settings. I really want to avoid opening this door or anyone having access to the settings. The game I purchased is Konami’s Fighting Mania. Any tips you may have in helping me solve this issue is much appreciated. Thank you, Ray

Response from Jonathan: Ray,
Yes, it is possible to put a volume control on a dedicated arcade cabinet. Your best bet would be to wire up a 5k potentiometer between your speakers and the board to control your sound level. Here is a link that shows you how to wire this up: http://scarvell.net/wiki/images/3/37/Vol_Pot_Wiring.jpg. You can get the 5k pot from Bob Roberts at http://www.therealbobroberts.net. Visit the parts page and do a search for “Volume Pot 5K Ohm” and you should find what you need. Of course, please let us know if you have any trouble with the wiring process and we’ll try to help you out.
Now, many other parts suppliers sell these potentiometers as well if you are not familiar with ordering from Bob Roberts (basically you email him what you want, he sends you back a total, you send him a check, and he sends you your parts). We have several listed on our resources page if you would like to go with another retailer. Heck, you may even be able to find one at your local Radio Shack depending on if they still stock electronic parts. We just prefer Bob Roberts mainly because we’ve dealt with him a lot in the past and we know that his parts will work for your project.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
