60-in-1 wiring question

Question from Gary: Hi, I was wondering if one way is better than the other, or if it is just a matter of personal preference for a 60-in-1 setup.

The first way would be to run all the power (power supply, LCD monitor, marquee light) to a power strip and switch it on and off that way.

The second way would be to also run everything to the power strip, but splice in an inline fuse to the neutral wire on the main power cord going to the power strip and also splice in an on/off toggle switch to wherever you want on the cabinet.

Thanks,
Gary

Response from Jonathan: Gary,

Either way should work fine. We typically go the second way just because we like to have a fuse (we usually install it on the hot side) just in case and like to use the original power switch in the cabinet when available. Check out this AC wiring article from Bob Roberts for more information on wiring AC inside an arcade cabinet.

Let me add one more thing. Instead of using a power strip, we usually wire up an outlet box inside the cabinet. We show a bit of this in our video on Wiring An Arcade Cabinet Using The JAMMA Standard. With that said, there is an extended cut of this video on our Volume 4 DVD that I would highly recommend buying if you decide to go this route as it has additional information about this process.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your future repairs.
