Adjustment question
Question from Alfredo: Hi! I’ve been watching your videos and so far they have helped me fine tune an NBA Jam Cab that I have and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cab (for the most part). My question is, the colors on the TMNT cabinet seem to be lacking red. I have adjusted the red pot on the neck of the tube as well as the red pot on the board but no red is coming through. The caps seem to look ok and I have no experience soldering, so it makes me nervous to even think of doing a cap kit! I’ll send some photos of the board and game so you can see what I got! Thanks for your help!

Response from Jonathan: Alfredo,
Yes, it does look like you are missing the color red. While it could be a cap kit issue, missing colors tend to be related to some transistors on the monitor chassis or the neck board depending on what type of monitor you have. Check out the What’s My Monitor page on Bob Roberts site and compare his pictures to your monitor chassis if you need help identifying your monitor. You might also check out our post on Checking A Monitor Tube which has some information on this specific issue
If you’re not very confident in your soldering skills, you might purchase some older electronics (such as VCRs, TVs, etc.) and pull the boards out of them to practice your soldering techniques on. We also have a soldering tutorial on our Volume 1 DVD that discusses some basic techniques to use when using a soldering iron. You can purchase our Volume 1 DVD from our online store if you are interested.
Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
