Arcade audio/visual issues

Question from Justin: Good afternoon. First off, I’d like to say that I love your online vids. I think I’ve watched all of them while restoring my Street Fighter 2 cabinet and they’ve helped A LOT, so thanks. I do have a problem; however, I am trying to convert my cabinet to a multi game through the use of a Pandora’s box. I purchased the arcade 4 years ago, repaired it, and it works great. In fact I just had the chassis for the monitor repaired about a month ago as it burnt out on me recently. The issue I’m having is that when I plug my JAMMA harness into the pandora board, there is no audio or visual. The Street Fighter board works flawlessly when connected so I don’t know if it is a power issue, harness issue or if I purchased a burnt board. I’ve attached a pic of my power supply to give you a better understanding. I am getting a reading of 5.29 on my +5 readout, and a 12.15 on my +12 side. It’s also fed from a 120v power supply. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Response from Jonathan: Justin,

It sounds like your voltage is good so we’ll go ahead and rule that out. Yes, you could have a bad board but there are a couple of things you might check first before jumping to that conclusion. For one, try hooking up a computer monitor to the VGA output port on the board and see if you get a picture. I believe there are some versions of the board that only output to the VGA port and do not support an arcade monitor. If you get a picture when you hook up your computer monitor then you might have this version. At this point, you will need to return the board back to the seller and see if you can get one that supports arcade monitor outputs. Of course, you could also try powering up the game as it is and seeing if you can coin it up and start a game manually. If you can, that will tell you that there’s an issue with the video output and not necessarily the board itself.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
