Question from Jim: Hello! I bought my first multicade type game – I think it has the 60-1 game board. No issues for almost a year then I came down one morning and the screen was black. Hitting the power button restarted the unit, I got an Initializing message, count up to 60, then Finalizing, then it seemed to be back. Played Galaxian, played Millipede, walked away. Checked in less than an hour and it was dead again. Do these boards die slowly like this? It seems like it would either work or it wouldn’t? Any advice appreciated! Jim

Response from Jonathan: Jim,

This issue could be related to the board but it could also be a power supply problem. It might be a good idea to check the voltage going to your board when it shuts off to see if it is correct. Check out our post on Checking And Replacing A Power Supply for more information. The +5 VDC line is going to be the most important as far as running the board is concerned. You might even turn up your power supply just a bit on this line (to around 5.1 or so) just to ensure that the board is getting the correct voltage.

If you’re sure that the voltage going to the board is correct and the problem continues, then you might want to consider replacing the board. The good news is that these 60-in-1 boards are fairly cheap (around $50 or less) so you should be able to get a replacement quite easily. Our resources page contains a list of Arcade Parts Suppliers & Distributors some of which sell these boards if you want to go this route.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
