Arcade conversion

Question from John: Good day. So, I have a question for you. I picked up a Moon Cresta cocktail cabinet and was hoping to put a 60-in-1 board in it but the cabinet doesn’t have a JAMMA standard connector. I’m trying to figure out how I can run the existing wires to make it work with the new board. I was hoping you would be able to tell me the best way to do that. Many thanks, John

Response from Jonathan: John,

Well, there are harness adapters available for some arcade games that will allow you to hook up a JAMMA board in a non-JAMMA wired cabinet. This is what we use in our post on Installing A Multicade Upgrade Kit (For Pac Man Cabinets). Unfortunately I have been unable to locate an adapter like this for your Moon Cresta cocktail cabinet. This leaves you with a couple of options:

1.) You can make your own adapter by using a fingerboard (that will fit in to your Moon Cresta 22-pin edge connector) and a JAMMA edge connector. Basically you just match the wires from the Moon Cresta pinouts to the JAMMA pinouts and solder the wires from the correct positions on the fingerboard to the matching locations on the JAMMA edge connector.

2.) You could wire up a new JAMMA harness inside the game. In this case, you would just match the wires from the JAMMA harness to the correct locations in the cabinet. Whether or not you keep the existing Moon Cresta harness and wiring inside the cabinet is up to you. It should be fine regardless.

Those are pretty much your choices at this point. It is going to take a little wiring knowledge on your part regardless of which route you choose. Please let us know if you have any other questions about these options and we’ll try to help you out further.

Please note: if you do a web search for a Moon Cresta to JAMMA adapter it may not be exactly what you are looking for. Most of the adapters I found when searching this term came up with an adapter that allows you to use a Moon Cresta board in a JAMMA cabinet NOT a JAMMA board in a Moon Cresta cabinet. These are 2 very different things. So, if you end up finding an adapter that you think may work, make sure you contact the supplier directly to make sure it’s what you are looking for.

Hope that helps. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.
