Question from Jonathan: I have a Midway Cruis’n USA arcade game that the screen is acting up on. When you turn it on you can hear everything but the screen just has a black and white bar across the screen from left to right. In the bar you can see what the screen is supposed to show. Any idea what this is and how to fix it?

Sounds like your Cruis’n USA monitor is experiencing a collapse issue. So, what is the thickness of the black and white bar that’s going across the screen? If it’s just a single line, then you are having a complete collapse which means you are probably having a problem with the vertical IC. Please see our post on Repairing Monitor Collapse Issues for more information. If the bar is wider than this (where you can make out some of the elements of the screen), then you may be able to fix your problem by Installing A Cap Kit. Of course, it’s definitely a good idea to install a cap kit no matter which scenario you are experiecing if it’s been a while since the caps have been replaced. Now, there could be some other parts causing this problem as well so please get back to us (with some pictures and make/model of your monitor if possible) if you try these techniques and still have issues.
